The A’s East Coast road-trip to start the 2022 season began with a 2-1 series defeat in Philadelphia.
Given the respective differences in rosters, and that we lost the first two games, rescuing a win from the series has to be considered a positive result. For a full review of the Phillies series, take a look at our YouTube review:
It gets no easier the rest of the way as we now move on to a four-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays and a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Rays’ Tropicana Field is a bit of an odd setting for baseball when watching the TV coverage and I suspect the same goes for when you’re in the building. It’s difficult to be too disrespectful of it though considering the Rays are fellow relocation candidates and get the same nonsense being thrown at their ballpark and fanbase as we do.
What the Rays have been able to do extremely well is to continually put competitive teams on the field despite fielding a low payroll in a division with three big spenders. It will be a tough four-game series against them, one in which a 2-2 series split would be a very creditable return.

After the early game on Thursday, the team will head off to Canada for the three-game series against the Blue Jays. We’ve not yet heard whether any A’s players will be barred from crossing the border due to not being vaccinated against Covid-19, but that’s something to keep an eye on nearer the time.
Saturday and Sunday’s games are a very convenient time for us to watch live in the UK, so we’ll be well-set for some A’s action over the Easter weekend.
