Start times for most games in the upcoming 2021 MLB season were announced this past week, so I’ve started putting together a UK-time version of the A’s schedule that I’ll finalise when all provisional start times have been published.
The only current change to normal A’s practice is that night-games are going to start half-an-hour earlier, other than the Opening Night game. The 7.07pm Oakland starts, 3.07am for us in the UK, will now be at 6.40pm (2.40am). No explanation has been given for this and it’s possible that it may change during the season if fans are able to attend in any great number. It doesn’t make much difference to us, mind you. Either way it’s early!
I’ve put my draft April (and early May) schedule above to give you an idea of the current format I’m going for. My approach is to list the game on the date it is being played in the States as I always find it confusing when websites try to be helpful and adjust based on your time zone. Home games are in gold, away games in green.
If it’s a night-game in the U.S. then I make the background colour more transparent and put the opponent and start time in italics. That shows you the game is actually in the early hours of the following morning (i.e. the home opener is being played on Thursday April 1st in Oakland, but it will start at 3.07am on Friday April 2nd for us).
If it’s a day-game then the colour is brighter and the text is normal font and in bold. This tells you the game starts at that time on the date listed (i.e. the game listed on Saturday 3rd is at 21.07 on that day here).
As you’ll see, we start off in good shape with at least one game from every series being played at a UK-friendly time. 12 games in total will be watchable without giving up much sleep, including the two games at the start of May against Baltimore.
And if you’re wondering why Sunday 11st is an off-day, I’ve got no idea!
