Wednesday’s game against the Rangers was a game of long-balls.
It didn’t get off to a great start, with Sean Manaea gift-wrapping a present to Shin-Soo Choo to lead off the game with a first pitch homer, but four home runs for the A’s turned it around and gave us a fifth consecutive win.
Matt Olson went deep twice and whether that was because of, or despite of, his attempt to grow a moustache remains to be seen. What we do know is that Oly-Two-Jacks can hit a baseball a long way.
The one downer on the night was the continued fourth inning struggles for Sean Manaea. Once again he was pitching fine until one inning proved his downfall the second time through the batting order. He’s more than earned the benefit of any doubt that he will right the ship; however doing so sooner rather than later in this shortened season would be very welcome.
Up next …
Mike Fiers will look to back up a solid six-inning outing against the Mariners with another positive contribution tonight.
Left-hander Mike Minor will start for the Rangers and he got whacked around for six runs by the Giants last time out, so if that mob can get the better of him that bodes well for us.
It’s an 8.40pm start here in the UK and is available for free on MLB.TV.
